US Solo Tour Wrap-Up (12/2-12/13)

Ryan finished off 2011, with a quick seven show tour of the US and Canada. As with the other shows this year, he performed solo acoustic with Jessica Lea Mayfield opening the shows each night. Although the set lists didn't feature as many surprises or any 3 and 1/2 hour long gigs, there were plenty of solid reviews coming from fans and press at all the shows he played.

This time out, he seemed to settle into a groove of playing a fairly similar yet reliable set of songs each night. The shows started the same way each night going from "Oh My Sweet Carolina -->Ashes and Fire-->If I Am a Stranger -->Dirty Rain--> My Winding Wheel", but the remaining songs could be anybody's guess.

"Dear John" made its' first live appearance since the last Cardinals tour, and was played for the first time solo! Ryan also debuted some excellent cover songs on this tour. "Round and Round" (Ratt) and "Blue Thunder" (Galaxie 500) were well received; as well as his cover of Bob Mould's "Black Sheets of Rain" (previously played at a Bob Mould Tribute Show).

While in New York City, Ryan made an appearance on the David Letterman show and went on to record a whole solo set which was streamed online through the shows' website.

Other Notables

In seven shows, Ryan played a mix of 40 different songs. Each show ran for roughly 2 and 1/2 hours and 22-25 songs per night.

Ryan performed his live concert debut of Ratt's "Round and Round" on 12/2. At the 12/8 - Boston show, Ryan debuted Galaxie 500's "Blue Thunder" on piano.
The most interesting set list of this leg was 12/10 in Toronto. During the show, he played five songs from Love is Hell including the rarely played - "Afraid Not Scared", "My Blue Manhattan", and "I See Monsters".
