Just in Case You Missed Anything Vol. 14

(OK, so I waited waaaaay too long to post this entry, and there are a ton of updates to report from the last couple of months. I'm sorry it took this long, but now that the new album is a little over a month away from its' release date (!!), expect the updates to be more frequent going forward. Also don't worry, I will be revisiting the album guides and tour wrap-ups again as well.)

- The new Ryan Adams tour is 4 shows in so far, and has been getting rave reviews from fans. The band has already played 5 songs off the new album, 2 from 1984, and another unreleased tune called "Catherine" which might be my favorite of all of them. Anyway I will be posting a complete tour wrap-up, set lists, and tour song stats following the Denver show on 8/7, but if you're curious to know what the new band sound like, below are links to some of the better quality videos shot on the tour:

Stay With Me (Portland 7/22)
Mother (Burlington 7/23)
Gimme Something Good (Newport 7/25)
My Wrecking Ball (Newport 7/25)
She's Not Me (Jenny Lewis w/ Ryan on guitar / Camden 7/26)
Dirty Rain (Camden 7/26)
Peaceful Valley (Camden 7/26)

Also, for a complete show, I highly recommend checking out the Newport Folk Festival stream or download. The sound quality's great, it features some stunning renditions of songs from Ashes and Fire, as well as 5 new songs, and is available for free streaming on NPR's website (or to download the Uncensored version go HERE.)

- A Whole Slew of More Tour Dates Have been Announced
(See the right panel for all the upcoming shows. According to guitarist - Mike Viola's online post, t's pretty safe to say that there will even more dates announced. As they are planning to continue at least through early next year.)

- Only a couple months since the Gimme Something Good 7" was announced, there is yet another new 7" being released on August 19th! This time it's in the form of a 10 song 7" punk rock EP called 1984. Ryan described the record as the following
"a concise, intense, and completely self-contained musical statement, recorded and released completely separate from the upcoming album. It pays homage to the halcyon days of the earliest releases from Dischord, SST, Touch & Go, and their like."
Two of the songs from 1984 have been played live so far ("When the Summer Ends" and "Change Your Mind"), and they definitely sound like a return to some of Ryan's earlier bands like the Patty Duke Syndrome mixed with a heavy dose of Husker Du.
You can now pre-order the EP at: Pax-Am RecordsShop Radio BroadCastWaterloo RecordsBlowitoutahere.com, Insound or most record stores.

- Jenny Lewis just released an outstanding new album called The Voyager on Tuesday. Even if you're not a big Jenny Lewis or Rilo Kiley fan, I highly recommend checking it out. It's great heartfelt, Sunny California rock, with a very live feel to it. Ryan Adams produced most of the album, and plays guitar as well.

- Jenny Lewis also did an interview recently for the Andy Greenwald Podcast. If you have ever wanted to know what it would be like to have Ryan Adams produce your album, look no further than this podcast. In this interview, Ryan almost comes off as a Phil Spector-esque/ part mad scientist/ part raving lunatic in the studio (but one who helps create stunning results).

- A few articles have started trickling in about the new Ryan Adams album. As assumed earlier, Ryan did in fact scrap an entire new album that he made with Glyn Johns. In Q magazine, Ryan said of the Glyn Johns album:
"It was serene and acoustic and all my friends - who usually tell me how it is, said it was beautiful."
He also spoke about the song "Shadows" (which has been played at most shows), saying:
"That song has two guitars diving into each other like B-1 bombers. Musically it's like describing what it's like to have a Meniere's attack"

In Rolling Stone, Ryan described the free-flowing making of the new album:
"I was like, 'I'll go in with a couple bros at seven o'clock and just jam. We would...smoke a bowl and drink some tea - and the words came free-flowing out of me. It gives me chills just talking about it."

-"Gimme Something Good" recently became the first 7" to ever top Amazon's singles sales chart.

- Pax-Am is now selling some bitchin' new t-shirts from the tour. You can purchase them HERE.

- More than one article has mentioned a song called "Total Knockout", which is planned for release on 7".

- In a recent CBS News interview, Mandy Moore spoke briefly about her next album. She said that her and Ryan have been writing new songs together, and she plans start recording the album later this summer. (See the entire interview HERE)
